The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Columbia University is recruiting research assistants (RAs).

This is a full-time, full-year position. Undergraduate applicants must be graduating seniors or postbaccs. If you are a post-baccalaureate student, you must apply for the entirety of your lag year.

There are currently two type of RA positions at the CTS research and both provide abundant research opportunities and clinical activities to help you gain hands on experiences, learn how to conduct research while participate as a team member. Each RA position will provide a $1,000/month stipend.

Scientific RAs

If you have been involved in research in the past, or majored in chemistry, biology, physics or related science education and/or equivalent research experience and are interested in learning and engaging more basic and clinical research projects, this position may suit you. You will be assigned to Principle Investigator within the CTS research of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Department of Surgery, and other collaborators as appropriate. Activities and responsibilities include but are not limited to: participate in projects conducted according to protocol under supervision of assigned PI(s), collecting and processing tissues and blood samples and keeping records; participate in histological, molecular biological assays and performing planed experiments; help in preparing solutions, setting up and calibrating equipment. The candidate will closely work with other research personnel within the lab and the division.

Data management and Clinical RAs

This position is designed for those who have interests in clinical research experience. You will be closely working with nurse coordinators, study managers, fellows and IT personnel for clinical research projects. Activities include patient surveys, patients' data collection, processing and securing database performance etc. In addition to database management, one third of your time will be participating in clinical activities, such as transplant organ procurement and tissue collection etc; you will be constantly interacting with attending surgeons, PIs, and physician assistants (PAs) et al.
