Remission and Reemergence of Diabetes after Surgery

Mechanisms of Long Term Remission and Reemergence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus after Gastric Bypass Surgery

The purpose of this study is to determine the hormonal mechanisms of long term remission and reemergence of type 2 diabetes after gastric bypass surgery.  Individuals who had type 2 diabetes prior to gastric bypass surgery and underwent surgery at least two years prior are eligible for this study. Study participants will receive $100 for the study visit, which includes a meal test (approximately 3 hours), which is used to assess gut hormones during a meal simulation. 

Are you Eligible? (Inclusion Criteria)

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Preop history of Type 2 diabetes
  • At least 24 months post gastric bypass surgery
  • No contraindications for the meal test (e.g. vegan diet)

Exclusion Criteria:

  • History of any bariatric surgery other thanRGB, including lap band
  • Pregnancy
  • Subject is unable to provide informed consent for this study
