Sowmya Sreekanth is Clinical Research Coordinator specializing in Cardiothoracic Surgery trials. She is originally from India and completed her Bachelors of Science in 2000. She started her research career in 2005 as a research student working on a trial studying prophylaxis for trans-placental transmission of HIV, funded by World Health Organization in India during her third year of medical school. She earned her Doctor of Medicine in 2008 in Karnataka, India. After graduating, she pursued her interest in research and started to volunteer at Columbia University Medical Center. Her interest in cardiology led her to work in the Center for Interventional Vascular Therapy where she coordinated many industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated trials. She is a member of ACRP and is a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator since 2010. Eager to expand her knowledge in cardiothoracic surgical trials, she started to work in Cardiothoracic Surgery, and thus the Clinical Research Core, in July 2012. She is excited to be a part of the CRC as it continues to expand and allows the team to learn even more in all departments of surgery.
Sowmya likes travelling, running, yoga, and experiencing other cultures. She has an adventurous personality and hopes to learn to fly a plane in near future.
