Beginning in about 2010 Dr. Feingold developed a novel operation to help patients with anal fissure that protects the anal sphincter muscle. Typically, when patients with anal fissure have ongoing pain or bleeding despite medical treatment the next option is to undergo a muscle cutting operation called partial lateral internal sphincterotomy (PLIS). During Dr. Feingold’s operation no muscle is cut and instead the anal fissure is cleaned out (debrided) and cauterized and a steroid (Kenalog) is injected into the fissure. Over 400 patients have undergone this procedure with a high success rate and a low complication rate. Out of town patients who are interested in possibly coming to see Dr. Feingold can call the office for information about making these arrangements.
