Clinical and outcomes research

Dr. Aspelund received her MD degree from University of Iceland Medical School, Iceland. She then received her General Surgery training at Yale University School of Medicine/Yale-New Haven Hospital, where she also completed a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship. She subsequently completed her fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada, in 2007.

Dr. Aspelund acquired a Master of Science degree in Biostatistics/Patient Oriented Research from the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University in 2009.

Dr. Aspelund is currently an Assistant Professor of Surgery for Columbia University, Department of Surgery, Division of Pediatric Surgery at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian.

As an attending surgeon her practice involves patients with various neonatal and pediatric surgical conditions as well as prenatal consultation for congenital diaphragmatic hernia and other congenital chest and gastrointestinal anomalies. In addition Dr. Aspelund manages a congenital diaphragmatic hernia multidisciplinary follow up clinic where she sees congenital diaphragmatic hernia patients of various ages every month in close collaboration with other specialists.
