Current Research Focus

Dr. Takayama's research focuses on advancing the understanding and surgical treatment of aortic valve and aortic disease through translational research, advanced imaging, and clinical outcomes studies. His laboratory investigates how altered fluid dynamics contribute to aortic valve degeneration and aortic insufficiency, while leveraging imaging technologies to improve surgical planning and patient outcomes. As Co-Director of a major Aortic Center, Dr. Takayama also leads research on bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) disease, utilizing one of the nation's largest BAV databases to optimize surgical management and refine treatment strategies. His work integrates innovative imaging modalities, tissue analysis, and computational flow assessment to enhance both open and transcatheter cardiovascular procedures.
