Wherever you are, our surgeons can help. Columbia’s Department of Surgery provides outstanding care across multiple service areas in a variety of locations. For major operations and in-patient procedures, we operate out of hospitals that rank amongst the country’s best. For office visits and select out-patient procedures, we have locations throughout the region. Can’t find a convenient office location? We also offer virtual visits.Request an Appointment

Main Campus

NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center

Washington Heights, NY

The CUIMC campus is the center of our activities. Here we do everything from office consults and follow up appointments to complex procedures and emergency care. In addition, this is where our surgeons participate in Columbia’s research and academic missions, overseeing clinical trials and teaching students and trainees, amongst other activities.

Hospitals

While some procedures can now be performed in out-patient offices, the majority of our surgeries occur within the operating rooms of our affiliated hospitals. Our hospital partner, NewYork-Presbyterian, of our surgeries occur within the operating rooms of our affiliated hospitals. Our hospital partner, NewYork-Presbyterian, has ranked #1 in New York by U.S. World and News Report for over 20 consecutive years. Our hospital locations include:

Milstein Hospital

NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center
177 Fort Washington Avenue
New York, NY 10032

Since opening in 1989, Milstein hospital has become the primary site of adult, in-patient medical care on the Columbia campus. The hospital has about 745 beds with six ICUs and over thirty operating rooms. Surgical patients are cared for on dedicated surgical nursing units, including surgical oncology, transplant, vascular/thoracic, cardiac surgery, and general surgery. Multiple Intensive Care Units and “Step-Down” Units allow for continuous high-level care of patients at any severity of illness. Several operating rooms have integrated advanced laparoscopic equipment and the vascular service has one dedicated hybrid angiography room for endovascular cases.

Vivian & Seymour Milstein Family Heart Center

NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center
173 Fort Washington Ave
New York, NY 10032

The six-story, 142,000-square-foot Heart Center, located in the center of the CUIMC complex, opened up to patients and their families in February 2010. It houses twenty cardiac ICU beds, a diagnostic center, two cardiac catheterization labs, and eight operating rooms--six outfitted with HD laparoscopic equipment and two hybrid suites for endovascular cases.

Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital

NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center
3959 Broadway
New York, NY 10032

New York's first hospital for children, Babies and Children's Hospital opened its doors in 1887. Now known as Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital (and sometimes referred to as “CHONY,” for Children’s Hospital of New York), this 268,000 square-foot tower was designed with the unique needs of children in mind, and includes spacious rooms with family functional zones as well as decentralized Child Life suites. The hospital has around 200 pediatric beds, including the 50-bed Neonatal and 27-bed Pediatric ICUs. It is a functionally independent institution at CUMC with a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma-equipped emergency department and eight operating suites (including robotic capabilities with a teaching console), all staffed by health professionals dedicated specifically to the care of children.

NewYork-Presbyterian/Allen Hospital

5141 Broadway
New York, NY 10034

Originally opened in 1988, the Allen Hospital is located at the very top of Manhattan, overlooking the Harlem River and the Bronx. This 300-bed community hospital expands the clinic population of CUIMC/NYP, drawing from patient groups outside of Manhattan. In addition to admitting patients through its own emergency room and clinic system, the Allen also accepts transfers of patients not requiring the full services of Milstein Hospital. The majority of operative cases are booked electively from a weekly resident-run clinic.

NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital

55 Palmer Avenue
Bronxville, NY 10708

Lawrence Hospital was founded in 1909 by William Van Duzer Lawrence after his son fell ill with appendicitis and had to be transported by baggage car to New York City. Recognizing the need for an outstanding community hospital, he purchased the land and donated the funds to build Lawrence Hospital Center. Since then, Lawrence has grown into a 291 bed hospital with over 450 physicians and over 1,000 employees, treating an average of 100 patients a day in its state-of-the-art Emergency Department. Services at Lawrence include radiology, surgery, critical care, maternity, oncology and rehabilitation.

1980 Crompond Rd
Cortlandt Manor, NY 10567
